The Sarawak-Malaysia My Second Home (SMM2H) program offers an opportunity for foreigners who meet certain eligibility criteria to reside in Sarawak under a multiple-entry social visit pass valid for up to 10 years.

This initiative serves as an alternative to the federal-level Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) program, which has introduced more stringent requirements in recent years. In response to these changes, the Sarawak government introduced the SMM2H program with more flexible and lenient terms and conditions, making it a more accessible option for those seeking long-term residence in Malaysia.

Sarawak being part of the Federation of Malaysia, enjoys a high degree of autonomy in managing its own jurisdictional, legislative, and administrative affairs. This autonomy allows Sarawak to tailor its immigration policies to better suit its local needs and preferences. For instance, travelers flying from Kuala Lumpur to Kuching must undergo a separate border inspection upon arrival in Sarawak, during which their passports are stamped to mark their entry into the state.
